How long does cake last in the fridge?

So, before putting your cake in the fridge and forgetting about it for days, or even weeks. It’s always best to know how long does cake last in the fridge!

Generally, the answer depends on various factors, including what frosting is used, whether it’s with fresh fruit filling or toppings.

However, if you have a store bought cake, it would typically last 3 to 7 days in the fridge. While a homemade cake will last around 4 to 5 days in the fridge.

Also, the topping type or filling type also contributes to the shelf life of your cake, so it all depends.

Furthermore, if you want to keep the cake fresh in the fridge, I recommend storing cakes properly with aluminum foil or plastic wrap, wrapped tightly. This prevents your cake from drying out or absorbing any strong, unpleasant odors from the fridge. It will also prevent your cake from losing moisture and become dry and tasteless. Storing cakes in an airtight container also helps extend their shelf life.

Best ways to store cake and keep the cake moist and fresh for 3 days

Even though I mentioned the cake can stay fresh in the fridge for 5 to 7 days, it’s best to consume it within 3 days, especially if you live in a hot and humid climate.

Here are some tips to keep your cake moist and fresh for 3 days.

  1. Use aluminum foil or plastic wrap and each slice of the cake should be wrapped tightly to avoid moisture loss.
  2. Apply more frosting to the sliced edges of the cake to prevent moisture loss and enhance the taste.
  3. Put your wrapped cut cake slices in an airtight container and keep them in the fridge for no more than 3 days. Only take the cake out of the fridge 30 minutes before serving.

The cakes remain delicious if stored properly in the fridge for 3 days. If you want to make your delicious cake last longer you can freeze it.
